Why does the driver kneel over the exhaust? Why does the exhaust exit facing forward? Why does it exist?

What's this a sidecar to?
EDIT: Holy crap. I did not know about this type of racing before.

the hot exhaust at crotch burning position is to save money on brazillians?

It's encouragement to move faster to get more airflow so the driver doesn't have their crotch cauterized?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it probably interferes less with the monkey (passenger) scampering around the back of the bike as well...
I've only watched sidecar racing once and it was about the craziest form of racing I've ever seen.

Yeah, it's nuts. I'd never seen a bare chassis before this, pretty cool.
